Types of loft conversions

Depending on the style of loft you have, and your taste preferences, there is more than one choice of conversion. Our surveyor Phil Ellis will be more than happy to talk the options through with you, but here is a brief description of what is available to you.

Veluxe (Roofline)

This style is generally adequate for those contemplating the smaller loft conversion, for example a single bedroom or study etc, where adequate height is available within the existing loft space. This option generally requires less disruption than a dormer, and planning permission is not always required, however, we recommend you check with your local authority first.

Dormer

This option is for where the existing loft space is of insufficient size for the proposed conversion. It creates additional headroom by extending the walls up into the roof. This is very practical especially if the conversion requires an en-suite to be fitted. This type of conversion will alter the appearance of the house and therefore will require planning permission, which must be approved before any work may be carried out on your home.

Gable Conversion

This option is very popular and can easily double the size of the room,creating more standing space and extra space for the staircase to be fitted. This style of conversion is the best choice for creating the most space.
